Data Center Guide

Plain-English explanations of how data centers actually work. Power, cooling, redundancy, interconnection, and AI workloads.

What is colocation

Colocation is renting space, power, cooling, and network in a data center while bringing your own servers. Customers buy rack units, a private cage, or a wholesale suite. Bitwrx provides the building; you bring the gear.

Tier classification

Uptime Institute Tier ratings describe redundancy. Tier III is concurrently maintainable: any single component can be taken offline without affecting the IT load. Bitwrx operates Tier III facilities.

Cooling and PUE

Power Usage Effectiveness measures total facility power divided by IT power. A perfect score is 1.0. Bitwrx YUL1 averages 1.18 thanks to free cooling and hydroelectric power. Higher-density AI racks use direct liquid cooling at YYZ2.

Interconnection

Cross-connects link your equipment to carriers, cloud on-ramps, and other tenants. Bitwrx is carrier-neutral with 100+ carriers and seven cloud on-ramps on the platform fabric.
